Frequently asked

Common questions

The short version of everything we get asked most. Missing something? Email us and we'll answer — and probably add it here.

Ordering

How do I know if you have a template for my bike?
Each fitment-specific product (tank bras, fender bibs, engine-guard chaps, mud flaps, saddlebag fringe) shows a fitment status on the product page once you tell us your bike. If we have a template on file, it says so. If we don't, we'll ask for measurements as part of a custom quote — details on the care guides.
What's the difference between a stock item and a custom item?
Stock items (whips, gloves, floorboard fringe without studs, tassels) ship from inventory within 2 business days. Custom items are built to your bike — every product page lists its lead time.
Can I request something that isn't on the site?
Yes. Send us photos and a description via a custom quote request. We'll get back to you within one business day with a price and lead time. Nothing is too weird — we've made covers for bikes we had to look up.
Do you take orders by phone?
The site handles most of it, but if you need to talk it through, email customercare@chilhoweemotorcycleleather.com and we'll set up a call.

Shipping & returns

How fast do stock items ship?
Within 2 business days. USPS Priority or UPS — you pick at checkout.
How long do custom items take?
Each product page lists its lead time. Rule of thumb: 3–4 weeks for most custom pieces; longer for anything that needs a new template cut first. We'll tell you a real ship-by date the day your order goes into production.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes — email us first so we can quote the actual shipping cost. Customs fees and duties are the buyer's responsibility.
What's your return policy?
Stock items: 30-day returns in unused condition, buyer pays return shipping. Custom items aren't returnable — that's the trade for made-to-order — but if the fit isn't right, we'll rework it or remake it. Full policy on the shipping & returns page.

Materials & care

What leather do you use?
Full-grain vegetable-tanned bridle leather for most pieces, deerskin for gloves and select tassels. Bonded nylon thread. Every edge burnished by hand.
How do I take care of it?
We have short care guides for every product family on the leather care page — installation walkthroughs, after-a-wet-ride tips, long-term storage, and reconditioning.
Will it hurt my paint or chrome?
No. Attachment-style pieces (fender bibs, floorboard fringe, lever covers) use Barge cement that's designed for metal-to-leather bonds and won't damage clear-coat, chrome, or powder-coat when removed with the technique in the care guide.

About the shop

Why did you close for so long?
The 2007 downturn pulled our focus to other family businesses. We never wanted to close for good — the templates and patterns stayed in the shop the whole time. When enough riders started asking again, it was time to reopen. More on the about page.
I ordered from you in the early 2000s. Do you still have my template?
Probably. If your bike's on file, a repeat order goes through faster. Include your name and old order info in a quote request and we'll check.
