Measuring your bike for a fender bib

Rear fenders and the holes used to mount rider and passenger seats differ wildly from brand to brand and even model to model. So we need a few measurements before we cut. Take your time on these — accurate measurements mean the mounting holes line up first try.

Before you measure

Remove your passenger seat. Sometimes you'll need to remove the rider seat too.

Measurements we need

If you don't have a mounting bolt at the rider seat

We can sew a heavy-duty Velcro strip across that end. The end disappears beneath the rider seat anyway, so you won't see it.

Want to make a paper template

Cut a section of poster board 8 inches wide by 18 inches long. Place one end just under the rider seat and center it along the fender. Use your finger to feel for the bolt holes through the poster board, then poke through with a Philips head screwdriver. Insert the bolt through the poster board and thread it a few turns to hold the template. Repeat for the next bolt forward. Trace around the fender edges where you want the bib to follow.
