Long-term storage

2 min read

If your bike isn't going anywhere for a few months — winter, deployment, life — the leather wants the same care the bike does.

Before storage

Clean and condition (see the reconditioning guide). You want the leather supple and oiled going into storage so it doesn't dry out.

How to store

  • Stuff with acid-free tissue paper or clean cotton to hold its shape.
  • Keep flat or hung — never folded. Folds become permanent creases.
  • Cool and dry. Garages with high humidity are bad — leather grows mold. Climate-controlled storage if you can swing it.
  • Never in plastic bags. Leather needs to breathe.
  • Coming back out

A light reconditioning before remounting brings the suppleness back. Check stitching for any loose threads — winters can shift things.

[Replace with anything specific to your region or how you ship pieces back to customers for re-fit.]
