Installing engine guard chaps

Read these directions all the way through before installation. Engine guard chaps ship pre-laced — there's no lacing or gluing on your end.

Orient the chap

The side of the chap where the webbing is sewn should face toward the front of the bike.

Put it on

Take one side of the chap and pull it over the engine guard. Use both hands to work the chap fully onto the guard. Snap it together. Repeat the process for the other side of the engine guard.

Adjust the webbing

Once both sides are fully and evenly on the engine guard, adjust the top and bottom webbing and clip together with the black side-release buckles. That's all there is to it.

Note: depending on your bike's engine guard design, you may have a single web strap and quick-release buckle instead of two.

After a wet ride

If you've ridden in the rain and the chaps are wet, we strongly suggest removing them from the bike when possible to avoid trapping moisture against the chrome.

Care & cleaning

Treat your chaps with a high-quality leather conditioner and weather protectant — Chilhowee Buffalo Butter is what we recommend — before any rain ride. Apply 303 Aerospace Protectant routinely to keep them from fading. Without UV protection, leather will fade to a dark brown or grey over time, like nearly all leather products. If they fade, restore the color with a quality black dye or boot crème.
